  the upstanding moral christian folks are praying and fasting in advance of a vote to ban liquor sales in athens, a city in northern alabama with a population of about 21,000. .

  Prohibition simply does not work, all it does is create a whole new set of problems. Does the name Al Capone mean anything? Are we winning the war on drugs in this country, or have we simply created more criminals? I think it would be easier for those who have a problem with alcohol to simply not drink it. Making it illegal won't eliminate the demand for it.

  i believe in god, but i also realize he may not exist.. if you don't believe in god, i really don't care, i'm just curious.. i don't have this need to start threads like "why you must believe in god", or other such nonsense, but some of you still have this "control" issue that you thought you left in the org.

  it seems like you must still try to control what others think.

  I think there is a certain level of superiority expressed on both sides. Theists feel morally superior for having some sort of belief system, atheists feel intellectually superior for not believing in something they can't prove exsists on a scientific level. I'm with you, though. People should feel free to believe whatever they want to believe without being judged for it. I personally believe there is a higher power in the universe than humans, but I certainly understand why others do not.

  A lot of these of these terms are simply differen't words for things that mean the exact same thing in other churches. DFing is the same as excommunicating. Instead of going to church, they go to meetings. They give them their own special name so that there is a feeling of uniqueness. They must be the only true religion because they are the only ones doing these things.
